    Water should be used on a case-by-case basis, in my opinion. Our 220 acre sits low, so during the hunting season, every little low spot in the woods is wet, making an installed water hole not value-add.

    If your hunting hardwoods your good either way, but when you have brush trees like buckthorn and gotta be creative in setups, not gonna happen with a saddle, I’m a bed hunter I can’t hunt for trees I gotta be in THE tree or brush tree, a tree stand won’t let me down. A saddle is gonna force me to hunt back from that bed when I gotta be in the spot I gotta be in.

    Although resident landowners are not required to purchase a hunting license and deer tag on property they own, they often purchase licenses & tags to hunt other property they don’t own. Additionally, they are often surveyed as the landowner due the the fact that they are in the business of farm production. And lastly, deer bag limits exist for both landowners and others required to purchase tags alike. Ohio has perhaps a simplistic system, but the deer herd itself is the best proof of its success. Anyone (exemp landowner or required licensee), if they choose to break the law, can and unfortunately do take deer beyond their bag limits. To suggest that this is only a landowner issue is irresponsible.

      @@HUNTRPOD, no need to call. ODNR publication 5063 details the license numbers and I can do simple math. For the 2022-2023 season (the last available data) non residents paid around 48% . Hardly the 70% you keep claiming.

    The barking like a dog is definitely a killer tip don’t know why I didn’t think of that myself with them being able to run dogs here in VA. One time after dark I got caught on my stick halfway down the tree, a bunch of deer came in right under me, after awhile I tried to play coyotes howling on my phone because I didn’t trust myself to make it and they didn’t give 2 shits and eventually picked me out and it was the loudest I have ever heard deer running away in my life…😂

    1:05:32 im hunting from the ground without a blind, treating it like spring gobbler and finding good natural cover to setup in. Allows for the most mobility, and deer absolutely get within feet of you. Im using a crossbow though which makes it a touch easier to get the shot off

    41:46 at least with regular modern trail cameras (not cell cameras) you have to go check the camera in the woods. You have to learn how to not disturb deer while doing it, and no matter how good you are at not disturbing them, unless youre using historical data, or at least letting them soak until you hunt the spot in the fall, youre informing mature animals to avoid the area during shooting light most likely. Cell cameras take all of the out. Set it and enjoy it straight to your phone up until, and even while, youre in the tree.

  • @chuck8586
    @chuck8586 2 дня назад

    35:23 between baiting, crossbows, and cell cameras. The biggest beyond a doubt advantage thats changed hunting is cell cameras. Want to be a better hunter with minimal effort? Youd think baiting and crossbows. But the least effort and money required is cell cameras. Take the $2000 youd spend on one good pile of corn. Buy a bucket load of cell cameras, toss them out one weekend in the spring while gobbler hunting, dont touch them again till the season has gotten going and you know precisely where to be. Sit on the couch the whole rest of the time and just watch pictures come in. In combination with baiting, its game over you literally beed 1-2 weekends before the season to know precisely which buck youre going to kill and know precisely where youre going to do it. Get you a cheap bow, with a 30 pack of knock off rages. Practice a couple weekends over the summer, snag a blind, call yourself the greatest come rifle camp cause you’re tagged out each year.

  • @chuck8586
    @chuck8586 2 дня назад

    28:45 i dont own enough ground to hunt on, and since i hunt Pennsylvania, i cant bait or feed on public ground. That being said however, because the state forest land i hunt is reliably barely hunted in archery season, and its well over 100k of absolutely premium big woods mountain habitat. I know exactly what you mean by the switch that flips come late august early September. All spring and summer its just running non cell cameras and scouting more land, which requires a lot of work but seems to come with less stress less focus on just one animal. But once the summer is dwindling its suddenly who cares about the abundance of nice bucks, heres the two or three glimpses of big bucks ive had here and here and there all summer, time to dial in as much as possible and the stress about not getting the desired intel immediately just skyrockets!
